illustrative 08

i'll be participating in this year illustrative 08. a show where illustrators get shown love. i thought it was going to be in berlin again, but this year it will be in switzerland.

autism.

i had a hard time with this illustration. im not use to doing random mark makings and chaotic scenes. I had to do the effects with photoshop because i was too scared to mess up the painting. even though i knew it was done with gouache and i could erase it easily, i was still scared. here are two of the drawings that didn't get approved. working with new scientist magazine.

my friend mike alaverez is having a group show there. his work is superb!!!! the kids better buy his rookie card now, cause after this shit the price ain't coming down! here's a sneak peak for this saturday. he shares a studio with ekundayo and dayo's work for his upcoming show at thinkspace is awesome-o!!!!!!! i can't show sneak peaks for that.


also very last minute, but i was invited to participate in slideshow part 3. the first one was at robert berman in bergamont. the second was at merry karnowski gallery. part 3 will be in wal art gallery. part 1 and 2 was amazing!

crx

im nephew just turn 16 and he got himself a crx. seeing his car made me miss my crx. it was my first car. i think crx is a perfect first car because they are cheap and clean. my nephew car is too flashy for my taste. reminds me of a batmobile. the silver crx is a before and after it got stolen.


2 finished illustrations. type is going to be on the top of the green piece, so i wanted to keep that area as clean as possible.
i usually don't show illustrations in a gallery setting because it's a bit too narrative and too art directed. but I think these might work in a gallery....... .

outro.

originally i was saving this one for a group show in 111 minna in a couple of weeks, but a collector wanted it so i had to make up for it with another piece. been extreamilyyyyy behind schedule lately. a friend from paris and portland's been staying with me for a couple of weeks and i've been playing tour guide. feeling really guilty when im painting and they are board as hell, so i try my best to be a good host. it's been a pleasure having them over but im going to go nuts from deadlines when they leave.

just finished this illustration. the gutter is going right in the middle of the piece. everything is done with gouache except for the yellow clouds. that is done on ps.

come original or don't come at all!

i've been pasting giant matchboxes head around la. very fun. i thought about printing giant matchboxes, but painting original and pasting them is much more funnier. here's a 30 minute head painting on bond paper.

also, i got home yesterday to finding a email sending me a link to concept art.
the guy is thanking me for giving him the idea........i never gave him the idea???????

heat

this heat dried up all my go-chae. it's always the yellow ochre to go first then the blues, then for get about it. this is an illustration for new scientist. asked to do a portrait of the bishop.

group shows.

my ride or die chick will be on display next week at roq la rue 10th year anniversary show. Im honored but at the same time a little scared to be showing with heavy hitters like mark ryden, marion peck, scott musgrove and shag.

im working on several oil paintings at the same time, just because the wait for one to dry is too long. here is one of the pieces im currently working on. about 45 percent done.

i got this in the mail yesterday.
a box full of swallow 4:) artist includes vania zouravliov, kent williams, ash, paul pope, james jean, brom, toby, sane glines, teddy kristiansen, jim mahfood, and bill presing. all of my works in there are oldddd and back then a majority of my paintings were horizontal. but yeah, it's out now!!!!!!!

one man's trash is another man's treasure. this is only a quarter of art supplies that was given to me. 12 boxes of old holland, sennelier, schmincke mussini. i have no reason not to go to painting workshop now. 4 sitting on the painting below.

speed painting

here's a time lapse of a commission i recently finished. I enjoyed working on this piece because all of the movie watching that had to be done.
the video looks like it's been shoot with a camera phone and the lighting is horrible. my light went out the night before, so the lighting is very dim. my next video will be better.

my roots.

these two paintings has nothing to do with my current work. I just wanted to see if i can still do traditional and graffiti art.
one of my old graffiti buddy is serving time in prison:( I thought it would cheer him up a little if i did his name......... I'm not sure if he'll get the work tho............ the guards might think it's a map to escape or something. or maybe i've been watching too much prisonbreak. the other is a portrait of moms. thought it might make a good birthday present. stopped working on it cause i know she'll HATE it.
